Why CrashRecordTv?
You "crash record" in a TV News Station when you need to cover a major breaking story or last minute satellite feed...no questions asked, we need those pictures NOW. I chose the name when I left ITV News six years ago, planning to offer a Freelance Broadcast Engineering Service. However, circumstances change, and I am presently working full time as Senior Technical Director for British Sky Broadcasting in London. Maybe CrashRecordTv will re-appear some time in the future, who knows?
But it's also called crash record because of one of my favourite hobbies...mountain-biking! I'm on first name terms with various paramedics in the South of England. Getting better and now dabbling with racing, but still seem to be magnetically attracted to trees and streams.....
Hi, my name is Simon Williamson, I am an Experienced and Fully-Qualified Broadcast Engineer / Operations Manager based in South East England. I have worked in the UK Television Industry for the last 31 years, and I am presently employed as Senior Technical Director at Sky Television in London. I started my career at BBC Television in London, working on everything from "Top of the Pops" to the launch of the first-ever UK Breakfast Television service...this led (naturally) to a couple of years at TVam, keeping Roland Rat happy. I eventually wound up at ITV, in the role of Operations Supervisor at Central News South, based in Oxfordshire. I've also worked in Soho Facilities land at TSI, so I'm quite used to the maxim "treat the client as royalty".

My first priority it to offer my services as an "all-round" Broadcast Engineer / Manager. I'm equally at home in Studio, MCR, or Outside Broadcast. Managing staff or operating the equipment. Racking cameras, fixing them, driving Sound desks or VTRs, setting up radio links, sorting out the rosters,...you name it, I've done it.
